Biography

David B. Allison has served as Dean at the Indiana University School of Public Health-Bloomington since 2017, where he is also Distinguished Professor and Provost Professor.

He has authored more than 600 scientific publications and received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Mentoring (PAESMEM) in 2006. His other awards include the 2008 Charles Barkley Excellence in Mentoring Award from the Minority Health Research Center (MHRC), 2013 Dannon Institute Mentorship Award from the American Society of Nutrition, 2013 University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Graduate Dean's Excellence in Mentorship Award, 2017 Thomas A. Wadden Award for Distinguished Mentorship from the Obesity Society, and 2018 Harry V. Roberts Statistical Advocate of the Year Award from the American Statistical Association. He was elected as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in 2009.

In 2012, he was elected to the National Academy of Medicine of the National Academies. He currently serves as co-chair of the National Academy of Sciences’ (NAS) Strategic Council for Research Excellence, Integrity, and Trust; the NAS committee dedicated to “addressing inaccurate and misleading information about biological threats through scientific collaboration and communication”; the National Academy of Medicine’s advisory committee for the Emerging Leaders in Health and Medicine Program; and the National Academy of Engineering’s project on Promising Practices and Innovative Programs in Responsible Conduct of Research.

Prof. Allison's research interests include obesity and nutrition, aging, clinical trials, statistical and research methodology, and research rigor and integrity.
